ACROBATICS Age 3-19
Students execute gymnastic skills including floor and balance exercises such as front/back walk-overs, elbow stands, handstands, cartwheel variations, and aerial variations. Exciting and challenging, acrobat students traditionally gain a wider range of flexibility and balance, especially when cross training with ballet.
BALLET Age 7-Adult
The structured classroom setting emphasizes anatomical placement, precision in execution, musicality, and a clear understanding of ballet vocabulary. As the foundation to all dance styles, students taking ballet acquire grace, fluidity, flexibility and strength, essential skills to all athletic activity.
CONTEMPORARY Age 7-19
An eclectic class, incorporating the expressive elements of classic and present styles of modern and lyric dance. This technique develops body awareness and alignment and explores center and choreographic movement patterns. A greater freedom of expression makes contemporary a wonderful outlet for a student’s creative energy.
CREATIVE MOVEMENT Age 3-4
Explores a child’s natural creativity while introducing the basic dance elements of rhythm, stretching, and coordination. RISE is dedicated to helping our students express themselves through positive energy, joy, and accomplishment. While learning dance fundamentals, students reach realistic goals, develop respect for others and themselves and share successes with their peers. Songs and stories engage movement exploration while aiding in the development of listening skills and musical awareness in a stress-free setting. Students perform one dance routine in our annual recital.
HIP-HOP Age 5-19
A free-style genre of dance that is expressive, fun, rhythmic, and high-energy. This class explores the traditional roots of this urban style and the commercial trends that have transformed it into its present form. Music and movements are always carefully selected and age appropriate.
JAZZ Age 6-19
Energy packed, expressive, and physical, this class combines traditional, commercial, classical and lyric styles. Progressions that emphasize proper placement, isolations, rhythmic dynamics, and flexibility are developed through warm-up, across-the-floor, and movement phrase combinations.
KINDER Age 5-7
K-I is divided into two, fun-filled halves. One emphasizes the basic structure of ballet including barre essentials, body positions, alignment, floorwork, and vocabulary. The second portion develops rhythmical awareness and coordination with tap fundamentals. Students perform one style in the year-end recital. K-I taught once a week for one hour. K-2 and K-3 taught once a week for an hour and a half and also includes the students introduction to jazz dance. Students in K-2 and K-3 perform 2 styles in the recital.
TAP Age 6-Adult
Footwork fundamentals, rhythmic execution, timing, clarity and performance style are all technical elements of a tap class. Students exercise specific skills in center-work and link steps in moving patterns and choreography combinations.
